Respiratory therapist, Children’s hospital
The 956

I came from rock bottom, addicted, going to prison, getting out, being told that I couldn't amount to anything at the level of college. My advisor told me that I had no opportunity, no chance, because I had two aggravated robberies, two felonies. But by the grace of God, I met this person that would go speak to us at the penitentiary. He was a respiratory therapist. Him and his wife also had a life sentence between them. He told me not to give up. It's always an opportunity. You just have to work hard at it. Don't let anybody tell you that you can't do it. So I did listen to him. I went to school, only through the grace of God that I was a great student, with a 4.0, ended up getting into the program. Ten years later, I'm a respiratory, I'm a two years of a respiratory therapist, one of the best respiratory therapists in the Rio Grande Valley. And I faced my struggles. I faced the change of licensing, and it was ran by the FBI. And they pulled my number. So I had to go in front of a panel, an ethics committee of 12 doctors, and clear my story. They dug my story, that I came from the bottom all the way up. They told me to pass it forward. But that's what I'm doing today. I struggle. I've been struggling lately with family relationships, with depression, from losing my mother, COVID. But I realized that today I can only be sane and trustworthy by having God on my side.
